Datcha x Diptyque collaboration: the ‘Praetorian’ lantern

Diptyque Maison - Boutique magasin Paris

Diptyque called on Parisian interior design studio Datcha to create a majestic luminaire in gilded brass. The two designers, who are passionate about hand-crafted work, came up with an openwork chandelier featuring both the silhouette of the Diptyque logo, the work of its co-founder Desmond Knox-Leet, and a reinterpretation of its Praetorian motif dating from 1963. The result is a cylindrical lantern housing seven candles, whose flames project the brand’s historic motifs onto the walls and ceiling. The metal is entirely hand-worked, chiselled, hammered and perforated by coppersmiths in a small family-run workshop using traditional methods. Brassware is an integral part of the Moroccan craft heritage, handed down from generation to generation by excellent craftsmen who produce genuine goldsmith’s work.
